How to decide what stays and what goes

Make decisions from vision. Visualize your ideal lifestyle and surroundings. What do you want it to look like and how do you want to feel? Your vision is personal and should feel good to you. There is no right or wrong vision for your life. When you think about your vision, it should feel positive, uplifting, and energizing to you. Making decisions from your vision will give you the most dramatic results.

Choose what sparks joy. Hold each item one-by-one. How does it make you feel? Does it fit your vision for your ideal lifestyle? If it sparks joy and makes you feel good, keep it. If it doesn’t, let it go.

Decide by category not by room. Most people have similar items spread out around their homes. Bookcases in multiple rooms, clothes stored in multiple closets, personal care items in multiple bathrooms, kids toys all over the house. Put all like-items together in a pile, then start making decisions.

Organize last. Make storage decisions after you’ve decided what to keep and what to discard. You may free up storage containers and closet space leaving plenty of room to store all the things that spark joy and fit your vision.

Look around. If you make decisions based on vision and what sparks joy...you’ll be surrounded with only those things! Just think how amazing that will feel…
