If you’re downsizing, moving, renovating, or going through a big life change, it can be hard to know what to do with the stuff you no longer need.
I put together this list of places to sell or consign your stuff to help you navigate your options. You can also check out my post on where to donate items.
Important things to know:
Some places buy your stuff outright and resell it. Other places do consignment, which means they agree to put your items for sale in their store, and you get paid if, and when, someone buys it.
Some places require an appointment to look at your items, while others allow walk-ins. They may also offer the option to email or text pictures. If you’re doing a walk-in, be prepared to wait in the store for an employee to review your stuff.
Be prepared for the offer to be lower than you expect it to be. Typically, stores offer you less than half of what they are able to sell it for, and many factors go into pricing.
Don’t take it personally if your items aren’t selected, but do ask for feedback.
Be sure to check out each store’s website for the most up-to-date information on purchasing times and the type of items they are looking for. Be kind and flexible - purchasing times may change based on staffing levels and volume that day.

2320 W. Main St, Bozeman | (406) 582-5710
What they consign: Clothing: high-end designer, trendy current styles in like-new condition, select vintage. Rustic and fine home furnishings.
Their process: This is a consignment shop, meaning you get paid after your items sell. If the items don’t sell, you pick them up, or request them be donated. Call ahead to make an appointment if it’s your first time, or if you’re a repeat consignor with more than 20 items. Keep all your items on hangers when you bring them in. Check out their website for full details.

Other stuff to know: In addition to buying vintage, you can also drop items off for donation here. Prices are kept low, so items fly off the shelves and stay out of the landfill. Mention this blog post, and they’ll give you 10% off on your purchase of $20 or more!
